And I thought my hearing was bad!

This made me laugh because I thought my hearing was bad! I guess I am ok, actually! 🙂

Have a blessed weekend!

Acts 2:38

A woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services, when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled, “Stop! Acts 2:38! (repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins may be forgiven).”

The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.

As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, “Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you.”

‘Scripture?’ replied the burglar. ‘She said she had an axe and two 38s!’

Cakes, coffee and the Bible!

I am not sure about you, but I am not very good at baking things! That is very frustrating to me because my grandma is a professional cake maker and I grew up watching her bake and decorate amazing birthday and wedding cakes. In fact, she made my wedding cake and the wedding cake of all her grandchildren that are married! Only two to go! But I guess watching her and marvelling on her skills did not make me a cake maker. Long ago I decided to accept the fact I can’t be my grandma and instead of baking cakes I started baking fairy cakes!

I found a fantastic, really simple recipe that works every time. 2 eggs, 100g of caster sugar, 100g of self-raising flour, 100g margarine and 1 teaspoon of baking powder! Even I can make it. I started baking them for the kids to take to school as a treat after they eat their lunches and it takes about 12-14 minutes to bake in the oven. It is so easy and so good that a baked fairy cakes for my son’s 7th birthday and it was a success!

Yesterday when I was getting the ingredients ready to make a batch of fairy cakes, I remembered a conversation I had with a friend about finding time to read my Bible and pray. We are so busy all the time with all the housework, the school runs and all the errands we have to do every day and that special time we should spend getting to know God better always gets pushed to the end of the day and then we are so tired that we can only promise ourselves that we will try harder tomorrow. Here I was about to start my fairy cakes and I knew I would have to wait at least 12 minutes for them to be ready!

Voila! God had just given me 12 minutes to wait for something. So, I decided to get my Bible as well as all the other ingredients. And when I put the cakes in the oven to bake. I immediately sat down to read. What a great opportunity that was! I was reading God’s word and having time to pray in my kitchen and when I finished, the fairy cakes were ready and the smell was delicious! I felt encouraged by God’s word and hungry because the cakes smelt so nice! So, I decided that it was ok to have a coffee and a cake!

Back again!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic half-term and really blessed normal week for those of you that were having a normal one!

We had a fabulous time in the cold but very beautiful Yorkshire! We took the kids on bus rides, steam train journeys and walks in the cold wind. The hot tub was a favourite with the whole family!

It was nice to be able to take the days as they came and not have to rush around trying to get things sorted or be in different places at certain times.

We are all feeling relaxed and ready for the second part of the term which will be very short! So, already looking forward to Easter holidays!

This is just a very quick post to let everyone know I am back and will be posting this week.

Many blessings to you all.

A break from the routine

I love when God blesses us with opportunities to go away for a few days. Half-term has arrived and we are on our way to great adventures and lovely memory building opportunities.

Suitcases are packed. DVDs sorted. Books to read. Bibles to be closer to God. Wellies cleaned and dry. Food sorted and packed. Kids really excited and parents hoping for some relaxing time! I am always amazed at the amount of stuff we take on holiday! Maybe one day we will take only one suitcase!

I always have a little panic attack just before we leave thinking I have forgotten something important! My husband very kindly and lovingly always reminds me to calm down and that we can always buy whatever it is that we have forgotten!

I am not sure I will have internet connection this week, but if I do, I will not be posting every day, so, I hope everyone enjoys the break and have fun with your kids. If you will be having a normal week, then, make the most of it too!

God bless!

Love is…

My daughter: Mummy, why are people giving big hearts and cards at school?

Mummy: Because they are saying that they love each other. It is a special day that people say I love you and sometimes they do something special.

Pause

My daughter: That is funny mummy. Shouldn’t we say I love you every day like we do?

Mummy: Exactly darling!

Big smile and lots of cuddles on the sofa followed!

All around today people celebrated love. What does the Bible say about love?

” Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Put a smile on your face!

If you have children, work with children or enjoy the children in your family you will like these! A friend posted it on Facebook and it put a smile on my face!

Moral lesson

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons,5 year old Little Tommy, and 3 year old Little Ben. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. If Jesus were sitting here, He would say ‘Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.’ Little Tommy turned to his younger brother and said, “Ben, you be Jesus!”

Jesus shows up

It was Palm Sunday and Pam’s five-year-old son had to stay home from church, with a neighbor, because he was sick. When the family returned home carrying palm branches, he asked what they were for. His mother explained, “People held them over Jesus’ head as he walked by.” “Wouldn’t you know it,” the boy said, “The one Sunday I don’t go, Jesus shows up!”

Quiet in church

A Sunday school teacher asked her little children, as they were on the way to church service, “And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?” Little Frank replied, “Because people are sleeping.”

Don’t argue with children

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, “When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.”
The teacher asked, “What if Jonah went to hell?”
The little girl replied, “Then you ask him”.

Proofreading required!

I was checking my email earlier and found a friend had sent me something that made me smile! I have decided to share some of it with you! The email claimed these were all once written in a church bulletin or notice board!

“For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.”

“Next Thursday, there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.”

“If you are going to be hospitalized for an operation, contact the pastor. Special prayer also for those who are seriously sick by request.”

“Applications are now being accepted for 2 year-old nursery workers.”

“This evening at 7 PM there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.”
